Creative Writing Classes For Young People
Ages 11—16
Tuesdays: 4:00 - 6:00 P.M.
Fee: $125 For 4 Consecutive Classes

Darkness.  Usually I’m afraid.
When I walked out onto the warm, rebel sidewalk, neither of us was scared, even with the endless but trapping darkness on either side of us.  We stared.  We both knew that the other was looking at her glistening eyes.  And then we were scared again, mine in silence and hers in voice.  I calmed her and she mistakenly calmed me.  And we stared, until technology…humanity chewed up our connection.  But we still stared, wide-eyed and confused and understandingly through the metal bars which our eyes slowly rusted through. When I was summoned I still listened for her howls and calls.  To each other, we were the same, but no one would believe me If I told them I wasn’t talking about a person. -- Nina Clark, 11 years old (Written at The Writing Studio, summer 2003)

Young peoples' lives are full of stories.  It's time for them to be known. Come write and share your stories because it's creative, fun, and the world is listening.

The workshops take place in an atmosphere that is vibrant and exciting, as well as gentle and supportive.  Individual attention is given to each participant's creative needs and aspirations.  Short assignments are written and read in the group.

We use music, art, literature and meditation to explore our creativity.  Finding one's writing voice at a young age, accessing the imagination and speaking one's truth, will lead to both artistic and personal self- esteem and confidence.

What a Student Says:

Benjamin Barzilai, age 14: "I had a good time, and I got a lot better at writing after the classes last summer.  Hearing other people's stories was really fun for me.  This year I am returning to write more." --
